Technical, Process Oriented Stuff
Sometimes a good day is just working with materials, striving for craftsmanship. Today I stretched the 40"x70" canvas. Heavy duty stretcher bars, CD#12 cotton duck canvas from Utrecht Art supplies. Squared the stretcher bars, attached the cross braces, stretched the canvas. Tomorrow, we gesso.
Pete decided to help out by looking pretty.

S #4
This is, I hope, the final preparatory sketch for a large commission - the final piece should be 40" wide by 70" high. Probably twice as big as most of the work I have done so far. The three previous sketches were nice, and one was a clear favorite on my facebook page. But the client asked for something in between the three - not a full body, but not an extreme closeup. I think this is a nice solution. See the twinkle in his eyes?

By the Light of the Moon - Nocturne Feb 2012
4 1/2" x 6 1/2" Oil on Artboard (archival cardboard)
$35.00 plus $5 shipping

I've never tried a Nocturne style painting, found it very interesting. I was just caught up by the way the moonlight filtered through the pine trees in front of our house, silhouetting the tree and the huge grain elevator across from our house.
